Couldn't sleep all night, A nightmare of a stay

I am from Bangalore and I have stayed in all kinds of hotels across India and abroad, ranging from small home-stays in remote Ladakh to 5 stars in big cities, this is the worst experience I have ever had. 1. The nightmare started at the check-in itself. I reached the hotel after a long day of travel at 11 pm, they asked for IDs as usual and then asked for proof of marriage as i was staying with my wife, even though both of our address proofs were from Bangalore. They denied wedding pictures from facebook as proof and asked for some document for the same(as if everyone carries their marriage certificate while travelling anywhere). Luckily we had a scanned copy of my wife's passport in mail which had my name, that saved the day. We got our rooms after half an hour of check-in process even after booking online. 2. On the second night of our stay, there was a wedding at the hotel and the caterer continued to do their cleaning and loading stuff to the truck throughout the night. They were shouting and fighting and using slang among themselves and completely ruined our sleep. We called the reception at least 10 times requesting them to stop these guys but there was no action at all. They stopped receiving our calls to the front desk and i had to go downstairs at 3 am to check what's happening. After much deliberation they gave us another less noisy room which was on the other side of the building and we had to switch rooms at 3 am in hope of some sleep(i had to leave for work next day at 8 am). I have attached some pictures for reference. These guys has no regards for their guests and they are more of a lodge for wedding than a hotel for staying. So they give a rat's a** to the guest's inconvenience and that shows in the stuff's behavior. 3. Lastly, the food was horrible. Even a street vendor in Bengal serves tasty food. These guys managed to screw up there as well. Most of the dishes had too much salt, were overcooked. The fish kalia was stale, expected to at least have fresh fish at a city situated near the river Ganges.

Lots of Unrealized Potential

The best things first. Location and Food. Location is a stone's throw from Berhampur Court station. Pick up and Drop is free for guests. The vehicle with the Hotel's name on it is good as is the driver. There is an attached movie hall and a separate bar. Full marks for location although there are no shops or other restaurants close by. Food: The in house restaurant provides excellent food. I tried and can recommend the Chinese. The breakfast menu appears limited but that is because they keep things from you. What they DONOT tell you is that you do not have to stick to the boiled eggs but can request the eggs to be cooked to order. (No live egg-station) Likewise no need to stick to the staid Idli and utthapam provided...they will make hot Dosa for you....only it wasn't till my last breakfast here that the waiter told me this!!!! Excellent dosa by the way. Restaurant staff is attentive, polite, knowledgeable when recommending items and helpful. Rooms. We had two rooms, The Standard and the Superior. When booking I was told the Standard is on first floor and it has NO windows. Of course, it was cheaper than the Superior. But a room with no windows was unacceptable to me and I opted for the more expensive Superior Room with breakfast plan. My friend reasoned that we would be out sightseeing anyway and what did she need windows for at night when we returned. She chose the cheaper Standard room won. Her room 214 was on the second floor. It was somewhat smaller than mine but had a small open balcony that provided a view of a wasteland that was a magnet for birds. My window (Room 221) opened into a covered central area of the hotel where the sounds of the kitchen and disobedient birthday brats were magnified to unbearable levels. Comfort-wise very little difference. What we missed was a tea kettle because although bed tea is complimentary...you have to ring for it. We found out on the second day. Rooms: Adequate. Room has one fan, an AC, wardrobe, tables and chairs, plus a TV but no fridge or safe. The Superior room (221) is large but has no fresh air ventilation...can be claustrophobic because of that. Standard furnishings. Standard amenities. Replenished bathroom toiletries. Bed linen is clean but tired. I used my own.The key had to be inserted into the wall mounted power point in a very specific manner...took me two days to learn. They provide R.O water at no cost on request in the rooms. I found TWO things that I did NOT like about this hotel. The first is that it is VERY...and I mean VERY NOISY. Be it the complimentary newspaper being thrown at the door in the wee hours of the morning, the clanking utensils in the kitchen, the staff talking amongst themselves or the NOISY NOISY kids celebrating birthdays in the banquet hall. When we requested the Hotel to ask the parents to control the decibel levels of the kids we were told "How can we...they are guests." Meaning we aren't? However what I think really needs tweaking is the behavior of the staff and the way reception is managed. Used glasses in the room were not cleaned/replaced although the bed was impeccably made everyday (you have to leave the keys at the reception and tell them you want the room cleaned). Bathroom has shower and geyser but there is no divider between the dry and wet areas so the entire floor gets wet and there are no windows to help it dry out quickly.. The guy who helped take our luggage to our rooms kept loitering in the room and pushing the bar menu. My friend had ALREADY tipped him for the two of us. Past 10 PM and after a 5 hour tiring train ride we really wanted to hit the hay, not have this guy stick around in the room peddling alcohol. My friend later told me she had to pointedly ask him to leave. I had to ask him if my friend have tipped him or not. Th first sour note was struck when I went to confirm if I was on the Bed and BREAKFAST plan. Reception said NO. I returned to my room, got the papers and came back. Yes said reception. Then on the day I was checking out they said there was a small sum of Rs 224 that was pending. I asked them what I was being billed for. Miscellaneous they said. OK, but what was miscellaneous all about. Breakfast bill on first day I was told. I said, Please check...they checked and said Nothing was due! Honestly. Then I said Please give me the hard copy of the bill. The guy said No, you paid online, so the bill will be sent online too. I said OK send it I will check on my mobile. By that time I was beyond trusting them...just wanted to be sure we had crossed all the Ts and dotted all the is. Online bill is sent after 12 noon! Alright I said, we are going out (we had retained the standard room) and will be back by noon. When we got back at noon the hardcopy bill was ready, so what was all that drama all about? The staff is not adequately empowered. One day my mobile internet failed momentarily and the Hotel's Wifi showed up but it asked for USERNAME and PASSWORD which I did not have. At the Reception next morning they told me that would have to be generated and I would have to come after 11AM to talk to whosoever it was that had the authority to generate those. Seeing that we left at 8 AM everyday and got back around 6 PM or so...the request was useless. SO, the Hotel offers wi-fi but makes it impossible for the guests to use first because the guest DOESNOT know and second because half the reception staff is not empowered to give it to the guest. Why not just give a standard slip with username and Password as most hotels do. Anyway long and short. Great location...no worries about budgeting time to go to the station. Free pick up and drop too which is fantastic when two women reach late at night. The chef is good so food is tasty. Repeat visit? Maybe. Maybe not. They really need to get the management part in order...and tea kettles.

The hotel is located at 24 / A / 7 Kalikapur Road, Shilpo Taluk, Beside Berhampore Railway station. Fairly new building in good condition. The rooms are clean. The bed is very uncomfortable. Poor soundproofing of rooms. The ordered dishes cooked in tandoor are turned almost into coal. I would replace the cook in the place of the manager. Service is usual for 2-star hotels.
